AirAsia has begun operating direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. This makes AirAsia the first international airline to provide direct access to Komodo Island, known for its unique Komodo dragons.

The first flight arrived in Labuan Bajo on September 3, 2024, marking the start of a service running three times per week.

This new route adds more than 4,000 seats weekly, helping to increase tourism and improve local economies in both Malaysia and Indonesia.

AirAsia expects this direct connection to significantly raise the number of visitors and support local businesses. The airline’s Fly-Thru service will also make it easier for travelers from across Asia and Australia to visit Komodo National Park and Flores island with just a stop in Kuala Lumpur.

Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, Managing Director of AirAsia Malaysia, spoke on the importance of Indonesia as a key market. He mentioned continued collaboration with AirAsia Indonesia to further develop tourism and trade between the two nations.

Mazputra also noted that AirAsia’s 28 direct routes between Malaysia and Indonesia have carried over 7 million passengers. These routes have been vital for boosting regional tourism and economic growth. The airline is also looking into adding more direct routes between both countries.

Easier Travel from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan Bajo

With these new direct flights, travelers from Kuala Lumpur now have easier access to the natural beauty of Flores and Komodo Island. This faster and more convenient route makes it perfect for both short holidays and longer stays.

Labuan Bajo’s proximity to Komodo Island allows visitors to explore the world’s only place where Komodo dragons live in the wild. The region’s stunning landscapes and rich marine life make it a top destination for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts.

For a unique experience, visitors can explore the surrounding islands by sea. Yacht Club Indonesia offers customized fleets, providing an exclusive way to discover the hidden beauty of Indonesia’s islands.
