13 Airlines Plan New Direct Routes to Bali, Expanding Global Access

Thirteen international airlines are exploring the introduction of direct flights to Bali , aiming to connect the island with major markets including China, Russia, Japan, India, and the United States. These proposed routes are currently under consideration. Handy Heryudhitiawan, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport, reported that several airlines have expressed interest in establishing regular flights to Bali. Although some have requested time slots, these routes have yet to be launched. Airlines that reserved slots for the 2023 dry season are still in the process of finalizing their market entry. "A irlines need to undergo the process of reapplying for flight permits, which includes determining their schedules and choosing the appropriate aircraft, " Handy explained. For Bali’s tourism, the focus was on African countries' successful conservation tourism strategies. Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, emphasized the importance of these practices. He noted how African nations have turned their cultural heritage into tourist attractions. In doing so, they also promote conservation. AirAsia Starts Direct Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan Bajo

  AirAsia has begun operating direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. This makes AirAsia the first international airline to provide direct access to Komodo Island , known for its unique Komodo dragons. The first flight arrived in Labuan Bajo on September 3, 2024, marking the start of a service running three times per week. This new route adds more than 4,000 seats weekly, helping to increase tourism and improve local economies in both Malaysia and Indonesia. AirAsia expects this direct connection to significantly raise the number of visitors and support local businesses. The airline’s Fly-Thru service will also make it easier for travelers from across Asia and Australia to visit Komodo National Park and Flores island with just a stop in Kuala Lumpur.
